My K-8 tutoring philosophy
I believe learning should feel safe before it feels challenging. When a child trusts that mistakes are welcome, they start to take the kind of risks that real growth requires. My sessions begin with where a student actually is, not where a worksheet says they should be, and build from there with steady encouragement.
Over fifteen-plus years in K-8 classrooms and one-on-one, I've learned that the same lesson can land a dozen different ways depending on the learner. I lean into a child's strengths and interests, keep things hands-on and conversational, and partner closely with parents so the progress we make together carries into everyday homework and reading.
After earning my Master's in Education, I spent years in the classroom before founding Learning Lab Philly to work with families more closely, in their homes across Philadelphia, or online wherever they are. Outside of tutoring, you will usually find me with a stack of library books, out walking the city, or hunting down the next great read to recommend to a reluctant reader.
